President Bingu wa Mutharika
Malawi's President Bingu wa Mutharika has granted a pardon to a homosexual couple sentenced to 14 years in prison. The president announced the pardon following talks with UN Secrtary General Ban Ki-moon.

A week and a half ago a Malawian court found the couple guilty of "gross obscenity and unnatural acts" 26-year-old Steven Monjeza and 20-year-old Tiwonge Chimbalanga were arrested in late December while celebrating their engagement. They planned to mary this year.
Homosexuality is illegal in Malawi and many other African countries. The case provoked fierce criticism from the international community.
