The Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa has joined his fellow Egyptian protesters in calls to topple the government of President Hosni Mubarak. He recently said he was “at the disposal” of the Egyptian people, adding that he would consider a run for the presidency in a post-Mubarak Egypt.

His presence has been welcomed by anti-government demonstrators, who by early afternoon Egypt time was already in the hundreds of thousands, possibly more. Across Egypt the scene was similar, with thousands pouring onto the streets in protests to end 30 years of Mubarak’s reign.

“We welcome [Amr] Moussa to the demonstrations. He is Egyptian just like the rest of us,” said one protester, Dina, via telephone.

After international media on Wednesday were attacked and beaten, including one Swedish Television journalist being stabbed and in critical condition, reporters on the ground are reporting a calm, jubilant situation.
