RNW, 5 February 2011
Iran’s Mashrek news agency has accused Radio Netherlands Worldwide’s Farsi website of being part of ‘an international media campaign against Iran’.
Since last week, RNW has been publishing news bulletins in Farsi, the Persian language widely spoken in countries including Iran, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. RNW publishes daily news reports and articles in Farsi under the name Asrholland via the internet, twitter and facebook.
Iranian internet sites have also been critical of a recent RNW press release, connecting it to the execution in Tehran of Dutch-Iranian woman Zahra Bahrami. Her case has led to the worsening of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Iran.
Rik Rensen, RNW’s editor-in-chief, says there is no basis to the criticism voiced by the Mashrek news agency. He says RNW is completely independent and works according to internationally accepted standards of journalism.
