Democratic party D66 has expressed horror at Ugandan plans to introduce a death penalty for homosexuals. D66 leader Alexander Pechtold called on Minister of Foreign Affairs Uri Rosenthal Monday to take a leading position in international efforts to block the bill.
“The minister said in his note on human rights that he wants to give priority to the rights of homosexuals worldwide,” Mr. Pechtold said. “Now he must prove what those words are worth.”
Ugandan parliament is set to vote on the law this week. If adopted, homosexuals will face the death penalty and anyone who helps conceal a homosexual relationship will face prison, said D66.
