CAIRO, Aug.
7 (Xinhua) -- Arab League Secretary General Nabil el-Arabi urged on Sunday the
Syrian authorities to immediately halt all violent acts and security campaigns
against civilians and speedily execute reforms to end its domestic crisis.
In a statement,
Arabi expressed his growing concern over the deterioration of the security
situation in Syria due to escalation of violence and military operations in
Hama, Deir al-Zour and several areas.
He said
"the chance is now there to make reforms proclaimed by Syrian President
Bashar al-Assad in response to the Syrian people' s ambitions and their
legitimate demands in freedom, change and make the political reforms."
He called
the Syrian authorities to immediately halt all acts of violence, security
campaigns and urgently take the necessary steps in this regard to maintain the
national unity of the Syrian people.
Arabi also
called the government and the Syrian national powers to take what is necessary
to pave the road for serious engagement in comprehensive national dialogue.
He asserted
that such dialogue is the only solution that guarantees peaceful transition to
a stage of stability which provides a chance to implement aspired political
reforms in a secured and stabilized environment.
He said
"the AL is ready to present any help in this regard to get out of crucial
crises that Syria passes through."
He warned
against possible chaos and sectarian sedition in Syria.
He said the
AL rejected foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries,
and seeks the safety of its members and their political stability.
