Jordanian Islamists urge government to recognize Syrian National Council

English.news.cn   2011-11-17

AMMAN, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Islamic Action Front (IAF) called on its government on Wednesday to recognize the opposition Syrian National Council as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.

The IAF, the political wing of Muslim Brotherhood, urged the Jordanian government to withdraw its ambassador from Damascus and provide decent living conditions to the Syrians who fled to Jordan.

In a statement posted on its website, the IAF said it is time to recognize the Syrian National Council as the representative of the Syrian people in light of continued violence by the Syrian authorities against Syrian citizens.

Condemning the recent attacks against the Jordanian embassy in Damascus, the IAF urged more pressure on the Syrian government to respond to the Arab League initiative that aims to address the situation in the country.
